   Care Guide

Care Guide

In order to ensure your purchase continues to give you good service, we would recommend the following procedures where appropriate...

Natural fibres need a rest after wear; rotate your wardrobe and your clothing and shoes will serve you even better.

Suits and jackets
  • After a days wear, put the garment on its original hanger, and let the inevitable natural moisture evaporate before placing it in the wardrobe this will help it to retrieve its natural shape.
Trousers

We would recommend using a clamp-type hanger for trousers with the garment hanging upside-down. Keep the belt in place it will help straighten the creasing.

Cleaning
  • Most marks (not grease, oil or ink) may be removed by applying a damp cloth.
  • Dry marks may be brushed out; rubbing fabric against fabric can also be effective.
  • Dry clean sparingly, the process will always remove some of the natural oils from the cloth. Select your dry cleaner as carefully as you’ve selected your clothing an independent is often more experienced with fine quality garments and any extra expense may avoid unnecessary disasters.
Driving

When in a car always:

  • Remove your jacket; the combination of body heat and the particular pressure of a car seat will set in unsightly creases and put unnecessary strains on the linings.
  • Avoid wearing a seat belt over your tie. The material of a seat belt rubbing on the fine silk of a tie can have the same effect as an abrasive pad!
Ironing
  • Always follow the principle that steam takes out creases whilst drying out sets them in. When ironing fine fabrics use a piece of silk or cotton between the iron.
Knitwear
  • Remember to take note of the washing instructions, not all knitwear will be the same!
  • Washing at too high a temperature and too much soap are usually the cause of any shrinking problems and we recommend that Knitwear is dried flat and away from sunlight.
  • Pilling is sometimes a concern in knitted garments, especially in the softer and therefore more desirable qualities, which tend to be spun with less tension. Occasionally some of these shorter and superfluous fibres in the yarn escape and perhaps work into little balls. These should either remove themselves naturally or come off in the washing process without detriment to the garments wearing qualities.
  • It is wise to remove pullovers and sweaters over the head by pulling at the welt and not the neck.
Shoes

Our formal shoes are producedusing traditionaltechniques and well cared for will last for many years. We recommend the following:

  • Wear them in gentlyso they canget to know your feet!
  • Leather soled shoes shouldbe well worn before being exposed to damp conditions. The compacting of the sole in wear makes them much more efficient at keeping the wet out.
  • Rotate your shoes; after a day’s wear let them dry naturally making use of a wooden shoe tree so as to help retain its shape.
  • When the inevitable repair is needed we have a high quality service that even uses the original last to help recapture it¹s shape.
