Cashmere cleaning & care

how to care for your cashmere

STEP 1
REMOVE PILING

Remove pilling with a Cashmere comb, especially under the arms, before the first wash. Cover any leather details and zips with cling film to prevent dye transfer. Turn the garment inside out to protect the outer surface during cleaning.

step 2
USE SPECIALIST SOAP

Choose a clean sink or basin and fill it with lukewarm water. Add up to 50ml of Cashmere shampoo, or 30ml of gentle baby shampoo or a detergent like Woolite.

step 3
WASH GENTLY

Wash each Cashmere item separately to prevent color bleeding. Submerge and gently massage the garment in soapy water without twisting or stretching. Rinse, then soak for 5 to 10 minutes.

STEP 4
RINSE YOUR GARMENT

Rinse the sweater under lukewarm running water to remove excess soap until there's no trace of shampoo when the garment is gently squeezed. Gently manipulate the Cashmere to remove most of the now-clean water.

STEP 5
USE A TOWEL TO REMOVE WATER

Wrap your sweater in a clean towel and press gently to absorb excess water. Lay it flat on a fresh towel, reshaping it carefully without stretching, especially the cuffs and bottom.

STEP 6
ALLOW TO AIR DRY

Gently roll the sweater in a towel, then move it to a warm room or cupboard, avoiding direct sunlight. Do not use a tumble dryer or hang the sweater, as these can distort its shape. Allow up to three days for the sweater to air dry naturally.

STEP 7
PRESSING

Once the sweater is dry, lightly press it with a cool iron to mantain the quality and softness.

how to Avoid pilling
PROTECT CASHMERE AGAINST PILLING

Pilling occurs due to the abrasion of short, loose fibers that come to the fabric's surface. It's common in new garments but should reduce after the first wash in high-quality items. Lower-quality garments use shorter, coarser fibers and are loosely knitted, leading to more pilling.

To minimize pilling:

  • Avoid high-friction areas like car seatbelts, shoulder straps, and desk edges.
  • For excessive pilling, you can return the garment to us for reconditioning by our manufacturer in Scotland, free of charge.

SUMMER STORAGE

Is advisable to store your Cashmere garments individually in sealable storage bags, in the summer months to protect from possible moth damage.

  • Launder your garments thoroughly prior to summer storage; moths are particularly attracted to remnants of skin, hair, and food, and perspiration residue provides optimum warmth for larvae to develop. Ensure that your sweaters are entirely dry before storing them as any dampness may result in the development of mold.
  • Store your sweaters in a clean, dry place away from any direct sunlight. During a long storage period, it is recommended that you give your sweaters a periodical shake to dispose of any dust and possible moth eggs.
  • Cedar balls deter moths with their scent and should be stored outside the bagged garments to protect the storage area from infestation. Other effective products such as sprays are available from specialists.
