Taxes & Duties – What You Need to Know
At Robert Old, we’re committed to providing a simple yet professional shopping experience. To support this, we’ve introduced a straightforward taxes and duties tool at checkout — giving you a clear view of the total cost when shipping internationally.
You’ll be presented with two options:
- DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): Taxes and duties are calculated at checkout and handled by us on your behalf.
- DAP (Delivered at Place): You pay any applicable fees directly to DHL prior to delivery.
1. Delivered Duty Paid (DDP)
Pay all applicable taxes, VAT, and duties upfront at
checkout.
Choose from shipping services:
- Standard DHL (DDP – Taxes & Duties Paid)
- DHL Express (DDP – Taxes & Duties Paid)
Benefits of DDP:
- Taxes and duties are automatically calculated at checkout
- You pay once, with no surprise fees upon delivery
- Faster, smoother delivery process via DHL
Why choose DDP?
It’s the most transparent and hassle-free way to shop — you know exactly what you're paying from the start.
2. Delivered at Place (DAP)
Prefer to pay taxes and duties upon delivery?
Select:
- DHL International (DAP – Duties & Taxes Unpaid)
With DAP, you defer tax and duty payments until your package is shipped and with DHL. DHL will contact you before delivery to collect any required fees.
FAQ - TAXES & DUTIES
VAT Automatically Removed for Non-UK Orders
If you’re shopping from outside the UK, UK VAT is automatically deducted at checkout.
Why Import Charges Vary
Import duties and taxes are determined by your country’s customs authority. They depend on:
- Your shipping destination
- The type and value of products
- Local import laws and thresholds
To ensure full transparency, we calculate and display the true cost of your order — including shipping and any applicable taxes — at checkout, helping you shop with confidence.
Important: Tax Refunds on Returns
If you return your order, we will refund the item value
according to our return policy.
Please note:
- Taxes and duties are non-refundable (these are paid to directly to DHL who pay on your behalf for the goods entry)
- Shipping is also non-refundable.
Exceptions apply only in cases of genuine issues (e.g., wrong item sent or defective product)
How Can We Help?
If you’re unsure about the final fees or need additional information, don’t hesitate to contact us.
DAP - Unpaid Taxes & Duties / Cancellation Policy
If your order was placed using the DAP (Delivery at Place) system, once the order has been dispatched, it becomes the customer’s responsibility to:
- Accept the delivery
- Pay any applicable charges, including:
- Local VAT
- Import duties
- Service or brokerage fees (e.g., from DHL)
If these charges are not paid or delivery is refused, the package will be returned to us by the shipping carrier. This may result in additional costs, including:
- Outbound and return shipping
- Carrier service fees
- Customs handling charges
These costs will be deducted from your refund, and only the remaining balance will be issued once the return has been processed. Please note that invoicing and processing timelines can vary, especially for international shipments. A full breakdown of charges can be provided upon request.
