Spun by the world-renowned cashmere spinners Todd & Duncan they draw upon their vast experience to create yarn qualities and colours that we carefully select from to create our unique selection of knitwear. Crafted in the Scottish border town of Hawick, our Scottish Cashmere is known the world over for its super soft yet durable nature due to its highly spun long staple fibres. Once the garments are knitted, framed, and finished they are finely washed in the soft waters of the river Teviot to give the uniquely soft yet cosy finish.

To create your warm winter outfit pair your Robert Old cashmere with one of our luxury English made shirts and a simple carcoat or Italian leather jacket to finish the perfect gentlemen’s winter ensemble.

What is so Special about cashmere?

Cashmere is a natural fibre known for its tremendously soft feel and insulating properties. Cashmere fibres are very fine and delicate, and almost feel like silk to the touch. Cashmere is significantly warmer and lighter than your average sheep's wool. At Robert Old we only use the finest ‘A grade’ quality cashmere sourced from the Cashmere goats that reside in the freezing conditions of the Mountainous regions of Mongolia. The best cashmere is gently combed from the underbelly of the Hircus goat as the weather starts to change to spring after a long winter.

What is the highest Quality Cashmere?

The best grades of cashmere have a length of a minimum 34mm. This allows the spinners to apply a high twist, a high twist means pilling will be minimised as the fibre will be retained within the yarn while wearing your sweater. Not only a long fiber but a fine fibre at a maximum of 16.5 micron this gives the cashmere its beautiful touch, for some context the human hair is between 60 and 100 microns in thickness.

Why Scottish Cashmere?

Scottish cashmere has always been the benchmark for the ‘practical’ wearer. Scottish cashmere has always been made to achieve two goals durability and comfort. Many Scottish cashmere sweaters knit and spin in a tight gauge while using A grade long staple cashmere. This allows the garment to have a high rub resistance which intern reduces the likelihood of unsightly pilling. Cashmere knited in other regions in the world prioritise a soft touch over durability which means the knit is looser and more likely to deteriorate.

Can I wash Cashmere?

Yes, absolutely at Robert Old we are confident that our cashmere is stable enough to wash in a robust way. Our general instructions depend on the garment weight. For our 2ply and 4 ply garments we recommend a hand wash or a light machine wash using a knitwear bag and light knitwear soap and our 8 ply we only recommend a handwash. Please read our cashmere cleaning guide for a more details.
