With the long summer evenings drawing in and a chill in the air, it is time to begin reaching for the autumnal layers- and there is no better place to look than the perfect coat. With the new autumnal season upon us, the addition of the warm coats provides the perfect layering tool to transform your look in the months ahead. When you’re dressed up in your winter attire, the truth is your coat sets the statement. Picking the correct coat can quickly have you looking the business.

There are plenty of factors to be considered when choosing the perfect big coat for the upcoming colder seasons, and Robert Old has you covered with everything from the most sophisticated performance styles, weights, and designers. The beauty of coats is that one garment has the power to transform your entire look with a host of different styles. Selecting the right coat is key to communicating this. The only question is, which style are you ready for?

THE PUFFER COAT

Puffers have asserted their dominance over recent years as the default coat style for the fashion-conscious individual. It is easy to see why as the puffer coat is the true epitome of both style and comfort. Often catering to the technical needs of more adventurous individuals, the versatility of the puffer coat is the perfect balance between warmth and lightness- uniquely individual to such a distinctive style. The Robert Old outerwear collection this season has been individually selected to provide some of the best examples of the puffer this season, with quilted puffers from Paul & Shark, Belstaff and our new outerwear heavyweight - MooRER.

THE PARKA COAT

Originating from the Canadian Arctic, it is no wonder that the iconic parka coat over recent years has once again become symbolised as a coat style suited to more extreme weather conditions. It embraced more performance textiles used for optimising warmth and durability. However today, the Parka is more commonly associated with a much more casual affair, best paired with a sweater, jeans, and some boots. This is something that is accommodated by Robert Old in a standout range this season. The Belstaff Altitude, created as part of a collaboration between Belstaff and Gore-Tex combines technically advanced materials and a more laid-back style. This Black Parka is down-filled and punctuated with 4 large pockets complementing the utilitarian style of the parka.

THE PEACOAT

Synonymous with a Naval past, the Peacoat is designed with durability as a primary concern. It is traditionally constructed from a coarse wool fibre, perfect for extreme conditions. This makes it ideal for the autumn and winter seasons for the contemporary wearer who enjoys a more classical outwear silhouette. The Peacoat has maintained the same classic double-breasted construction in a woollen twill composition throughout the style’s long history. Also revered for their boating history Paul & Shark have created the navy peacoat with heritage logo.

THE BOMBER JACKET

Similarly to the Peacoat, the Bomber jacket also shares a military past having been worn by the United States military for decades. Perhaps most famous for the MA1 style the bomber jacket which features a high collar (no hood), side slip pockets, arm pocket, and is often cut to an oversized fit. MooRER a new feature at Robert Old, provides some of the most technically advanced outerwear. Boasting the finest Siberian goose down jackets in the world, the Arena bomber jacket is paired with the noble merino wool for unmatched warmth and style. Or alternatively if you're looking for pure decadence look no further than our pure cashmere bomber jacket.
